early summer thoughts

hey guys!

i hope everyone is starting their summer out with some fun stuffs to do ~ i cannot believe it but it's already over 100 degrees here in the desert. and the cacti are all in bloom, every year they blow me away with all the color! how i love them. so, i've been keeping pretty busy... busy in so many ways! as some of you know james and i welcomed our sweet little boy 2 months ago and we are loving him so much! of course he is magic, amazing, beautiful, wise, advanced beyond his time, brilliant and an all-around genius. a new member of the band. :D

speaking of "the band", i'm starting to put some musical thoughts together, it's actually something that i thought i was going to do last year but A Winter Gathering took hold... so now it's starting to come around once again. the seeds are starting to get planted i guess you can say, for a tasty garden of musical treat-ness.

in other news, we are in the midst of re-working the main site (http://www.shaunaburns.com) a touch for the summer, we are fiddling around now and hopefully you will see the new-ish-ness soon. i'll let you know.

we are/have been doing a fun "song of the week" on the facebook music page (http://www.facebook.com/shaunaburnsmusic). it's been fun going back into the catalogue and listening to songs... and the videos! memories! i hope you guys are enjoying the trip down memory lane too.

breaking dawn & other things :)

hello!

okay kids ~ spoilers ahead for those who haven't seen Breaking Dawn yet! :)

so have we recovered from our breaking dawn midnight shows?... and perhaps more?... i think i slept all day friday recovering! but it was well worth it. i went into the movie expecting it to be a totally different experience from the last two movies (new moon and eclipse) and even though it was different in ways i think this film was most like the first twilight. little "easter eggs" for us crazy fans... who expected "Flightless Bird, American Mouth" (Iron & Wine) at the wedding?! and other musical connections... this hit me the hardest. i knew Carter Burwell was returning to score BD (he did the score for the first twilight) but i wasn't expecting to feel so much nostalgia with it... it made the experience very sweet. i love how we heard snippets or updated versions of the "old" twilight sounds, the lullaby and even the "twilight" drumbeats. all very cool. i purposely didn't listen to the soundtrack before the movie because i wanted to have fresh ears and the music didn't jar me out of the story, which i think is a good thing. everything seemed smooth and melted with the scenes. okay, speaking of scenes ~ i love how they really did keep close to the book, even line for line at some points. everyone was making such a big deal of the dress i was quite curious to actually see this manifestation of amazingness... lol... but yes indeed, it was beautiful. and perfect for her. hello, the back! i loved how when bella was walking down the aisle it felt like she was being pulled by a line from her eyes. brazil, very nice. love how she was eating peanut butter with chicken. really creepy and perfect how bella's physical transformation was handled. that was nuts. at the end when she is lying on the table... oh my gosh. i held my breath. ah! i wasn't sure how they were going to tackle the whole imprinting thing at the end (how would you show that?... hello, Quil and Claire on the beach!) but i loved it. the whole end... the end!! yes, the whole birth/transformation was done really well. and how perfect was the final shot? oh, yes, breaking dawn 2 will be tasty, indeed!

A new journey is here... I am thrilled to announce A Winter Gathering, a collection of newfangled holiday carols and original songs. I never thought I'd do a holiday album but after thinking it through and feeling my way though some of the nostalgic carols, it just felt right. Sometimes things work out that way. The ancient and older songs lead me to this world I hadn't really explored, a new voyage to a familiar place. I thought it was important to give the older songs new breath points at certain moments and that comes in the form of original pieces I'm calling "songscapes". This work has now taken on a life of it's own and turned into a poignant phase in the music's journey. Everything from the instrumentation to the recording has been a totally new experience this time around. Very new ingredients in the pot this time! Lot's of new elements and sounds. I hope you will enjoy this Gathering as much as I have.

The album will be released on October 25th and will be available to purchase and download from ShaunaBurns.com and all the usual places (iTunes, Amazon, CD Baby etc).

Stay close ~ more treats, including the song listing, new website, new photos and videos, will be revealed in good time!

hi guys and gals!

hope everyone is well ~

so i have a little tidbit for ya! indeed, i’ve been in musical hibernation and getting some things together. we’re really in the thick of it and can see the finish line ahead. this journey has been like no other. it’s not something i ever thought i’d do... at least out in public! ha! but it’s being nurtured as we speak. i’ll have more details soon ~ as in, what the heck i’m actually talking about! oh, how i love to be cryptic! ;)

but until then, know that the of elves are working away behind the scenes, so to speak...

in some other exciting news i found out that a song i wrote was featured in two episodes of the Real World New Orleans (season 24) on MTV! the song that they used is a special one that is not on any albums ~ it’s called Dragonfly. this song will come out fully one day... pretty exciting! the episodes aired back in the fall but you can watch the shows on the MTV web site:

what's up?

hello!

well, i’m finally getting around to this music blog i’ve been contemplating and agonizing over for oh... a long time. oi! but basically it’s a “what’s up with the music lately?” blog post.

so what’s up?

lot’s. lot’s and lot’s. you know when you think you are going to travel on a certain road or do something and then when reality hits or when you sit down to do it ~ it shifts. the energy starts traveling in a certain direction that you didn’t anticipate. my next project has done exactly that. i had this big, huge, crazy-cool, awesome idea ~ ideas. and then things started to shift. life, seasons. something. i still have my treats oh-so-patiently waiting for their day. and it will come, i promise. but i’m now thinking of a brand new something, it’s coming together and i just need to think it through. it’s something i never thought i’d do. but now the frequency is perhaps changing and it could be right. i know this sounds so cryptic and silly. but plainly put, what i wanted to do ~ i will do eventually ~ but it will have to wait for just a little bit. now i want to do a new project but i’m hashing it out. and, heaven willing, it will be sooner than we think. (fingers crossed!)

anyhoo ~ i really wanted to thank you guys for hanging around and reading and downloading and still supporting the music. when it’s late at night your warmth keeps the fires burning.

App Thoughts and Thanks

Hi!

Firstly, thank you guys so much for all the beautiful, thoughtful and sweet messages about the new iPhone app. I truly appreciate your kindness ~ and I'm so happy you guys are enjoying this new little adventure. :)

I thought I would go over some details/questions about the app ~ just a few tidbits:

~ How do I buy the songs/albums through the app? You can buy the music several ways through the app, the first being the Store on the bottom menu. This connects you to the http://www.shaunaburns.com website store/paypal. You can also purchase individual songs and all the albums through both the Music section and the Tunes section. Just click on Buy Album or Buy Song. This connects you to iTunes.

~ What is the arrow/play button up on the top for? The arrow/playbutton is just a shortcut to the Music section ~ that's where you listen to selected songs while browsing the app. This way you can control what you're listening to quickly and not have to back out to Home to get back to the Music section.

~ What's the difference between the Music section and the Tunes section? The Music section is where you listen to selected songs and can purchase them through iTunes. The Tunes section is where you can see the albums, listing of the songs, credits and buy the albums or individual songs through iTunes.

~ How do I listen to the Thistle Glen Podcast on the app? When you click on the Podcast section it will take you to the listing of all the podcast episodes. Click on which episode you want to listen to. After the summary of what the episode is about there is an orange link on the bottom that says: **Click Here to Listen on App** Click (touch) that text, it will open quicktime and play automatically (it might take a second to load). (note: the "Read Full Story" link just takes you to http://www.shaunaburns.com which is a flash opening and therefore does not show up on the app.)

~ Why does the Store (or some of the website) look different than when I look at it on a computer? iPhones do not support flash and so any flash element that you see will be blank. (I wish iPhones played flash!) But normal links and pictures should show up.

~ How do I see the Twitter feed? When you click on the Twitter section (on the bottom of the app) you have a choice to see: "What ShaunaBurns is saying" which is my twitter feed @shaunaburns. "Fan Replies (Mentions)", which is anyone who tweets/mentions @shaunaburns on twitter. And hashtag #shaunaburns which is anyone who puts "#shaunaburns" on their tweets.

~ Which blog am I seeing on the app? It's the Live Journal blog, which is used as the main blog for the website. (I almost always copy the entries over to Facebook and MySpace.) All links should work normal in this section. If you click on the "Read Full Story" at the bottom it will take you to the actual blog online.

I'm assuming the Videos, Photos, Bio and Sites in the More section are pretty self-explanatory... The Videos are from the YouTube channel (http://www.youtube.com/shaunaburns), Official Videos are the ones on the channel and Fan Videos are videos tagged with "shaunaburns"... Photos, I will be adding to this section... Bio, it's the current Bio... and Sites are links to Facebook, MySpace, ReverbNation and the main webisite's news section.
